Pilot Water Reservoir in Orlová
Work on the activity will start in Phase 2 of the project
Partners involved in the activity: City of Orlová
Efficient rainwater management is one of the key objectives of the Moravian-Silesian Adaptation Strategy of the Region for the Impacts of Climate Change. Although rainwater management is becoming increasingly important, many cities in our region do not yet have adequately tested conditions or systems in place for capturing and then using rainwater.
As part of this activity, the City of Orlová examined the possibilities and conditions for catching rainwater and the construction of a water reservoir within the city. The evaluation of the area was based on a territorial study entitled Organisation of Water Drainage and Associated Risks in the City of Orlová, which identified seven suitable sites. Unfortunately, it turned out that the property rights to these sites were unresolved or the sites were located in the outskirts of the city, greatly complicating their use.
The city therefore sought an alternative location and the most suitable was the area near the revitalised square and forest park. However, a geological survey showed that the subsoil there was unsuitable for the construction of a dam and that the work would be too costly and technically demanding.
The City of Orlová will decide on the next steps in Phase 2 of the project. It is likely to focus on alternative measures for the use of rainwater that are feasible and effective. At the same time, the price surveys indicate that the project funding will only cover the preparation of the project documentation and the city will then have to look for other sources of funding for the actual implementation.
We will keep you informed about progress with the activity on this website and on the MiSe Klima portal.
