Revitalisation of the Makoszowy Mining Site in Poland
Work on the activity has already started and will continue until Phase 3 of the project
Partners involved in the activity: Główny Instytut Górnictwa
The activity increases the supra-regional impact of the implementation of the Moravian-Silesian Adaptation Strategy of the Region for the Impacts of Climate Change. It is a concrete example of how to revitalise former coal mining sites in order to restore their natural values and enhance ecosystem services.
This activity will include the preparation of a comprehensive study on the revitalisation of mining-affected areas in Poland, which will serve as the basis for planning long-term investment policy in post-mining areas. The purpose of the study is to define a vision for the development of the selected area and to select the optimal scenarios for change and meaningful use of the mine site in accordance with the requirements and needs of the region and the local community.
The revitalisation study will include:
- pre-investment analyses of the state of the territory encompassing diagnostics, design and application,
- a feasibility study that defines the scope for technical, formal, legal, organisational and revitalisation activities,
- a roadmap for a specific mine revitalisation option (including timetable and budget),
- a set of recommendations for strengthening the territory's ecosystem services.
