Study of the Use of the Kozinec Subsidence Area in the Municipality of Doubrava
This activity was completed in Phase 1 of the project
Partners involved in the activity: Moravian-Silesian Investment and Development and DIAMO
2024, saw the successful completion of this activity, aimed at finding a meaningful use of the area after the closure of the coal mine, taking into account the needs of the municipality of Doubrava and the surrounding landscape. The activity was focused on the subsidence basin northeast of the municipality of Doubrava, formerly the site of the village of Kozinec, which was destroyed due to subsidence caused by coal mining.
On the site of the former village of Kozinec there is now a lake with adjacent wetlands covering an area of 47 ha and reclaimed land (about 30 ha) owned by the state enterprise DIAMO. The body of water and the wetlands were assessed as a significant natural area and it was recommended that the site be left in its current state. On the other hand, the area between the municipality of Doubrava and the lake offers great potential for future use. This area was the focus of a study exploring the possible use future of the Kozinec site.
First, a comprehensive analytical part was prepared, which, in addition to assessing the existing situation, proposed possible uses for the area, including a profit and non-profit model. At the end of 2023, the first part of the study was presented to the Doubrava municipal council and based on its selection, the non-profit model was further developed, combining nature and recreation in the area.
For this proposal, a comprehensive master plan including a landscape-architectural study, feasibility study and financial calculation including a cost-benefit analysis was prepared in Phase 2. The master plan is also accompanied by a technical report with a geodetic topographic and elevation survey taking account of landscaping work and a detailed proposal for the design of the area in question, including its subsequent maintenance and care. The second part of the study was handed over and presented to the municipality of Doubrava in January 2024.
Work on the activity has been completed and it will continue to be implemented in a complementary manner with the support of the project team in the form of consultancy on finding a way to fund the eventual implementation of the proposal.
