Work on the activity started in Phase 1 and will continue throughout the duration of the project

Partners involved in the activity: Moravian-Silesian Investment and Development and the partner cities of Karviná, Havířov and Orlová

Effective initiation of the adaptation process at the local level should always start with the development of an adaptation strategy. An adaptation strategy prepares cities for climate change and provides a valuable basis for planning its development to ensure resilience in the face of extreme weather conditions.

During Phase 1 of the project, climate risk analyses were developed for 7 towns as part of this activity: Třinec, Bílovec, Příbor, Bruntál, Frýdlant nad Ostravicí, Fulnek and Odry. The financial savings enabled the towns to be offered the opportunity to develop complete adaptation strategies. This offer was taken up by all the towns, and they received the completed adaptation strategies in 2024.

The City of Orlová also did not have an adaptation strategy and therefore one of the tasks of this activity was to develop one. The strategy was approved by the town in 2023 and will be updated in Phase 2 of the project.

During this activity, the cities of Karviná and Havířov will evaluate and update their existing adaptation strategies (Climate Change Adaptation Strategy of the Statutory City of Karviná, Climate Change Adaptation Strategy of the City of Havířov) and action plans.
